Electrical Steel Sheet
Electrical Steel Sheet Business
Electrical steel sheet is a steel with silicon added and is a magnetic material which efficiently converts electrical energy and magnetic energy as a feature.
This material is used in extensive fields, such as the cores in generators, transformers, and motors, etc. as the main applications. This material has low core loss of the energy in energy conversion, thereby improving energy efficiency and achieving energy savings.
In addition to standard electrical steel, Kanematsu also handles thin gauge electrical steel strips which thickness is thinner than 0.2mm.
In response to the increasing needs for energy efficiency, we are enhancing our sales activities of high-value added niche material, thin-gauge electrical steel strip.

Main products and services
The oriented electrical steel strip (GT series)
The oriented electrical steel strip (GT series) is used in various electrical equipment including reactors and transformers, and is provided in steel strips, cut sheets, and wound cores per customer needs.
This product has excellent magnetic properties in the specific direction of the steel strip. The high saturation flux density lowers core loss especially in the high frequency range.
Compared with conventional electrical steel sheets, this "thin-gauge" electrical steel strips (thickness: 0.12 mm or less) achieve a great reduction in core loss due to the thinner thickness and its low eddy currents.
This helps improving in energy efficiency of applications.
- High flux density and high efficiency particularly in the high frequency range of 400 Hz to 40 kHz
- Excellent processability helps downsizing and space-savings of reactors and transformers
The non-oriented electrical steel strip (ST series)
The non-oriented electrical steel strip (ST series) is used for motors, such as in drones, vacuum cleaners, E-motorcycles and dental drills, etc., and is provided in steel strips, cut sheet sand laminated cores per customer needs.
This product has excellent magnetic properties in all directions of the steel strip. Compared with conventional electrical steel sheets, this "thin-gauge" electrical steel strips (thickness: 0.15 mm or less) achieve a great reduction in core loss due to the thinner thickness and its low eddy currents.
- High flux density and high efficiency particularly in the high frequency range of 400 Hz to 40 kHz
- Excellent processability helps downsizing of motor cores and magnetic bearings
- Reduces heat loss by suppressing eddy currents. Contributes to the control of the heat generation, which is ideal for use in conditions where temperature control is required, such as under cooling environments.
- Improvement in energy efficiency expands the options of the power supply, including batteries.
